April May Fall Release Blitz

October 26, 2021

April May Fall by Christina Hovland is now live!

April Davis totally has her life in order. Ha! Not really. Yes, she’s the Calm Mom—a social influencer with a reputation for showing moms how to stay calm and collected through yoga—but behind the scenes, she’s barely holding it all together. Raising tiny humans alone is exhausting, but that’s just the chewed-up cherry on the melted sundae of her life. Her kids aren’t behaving, her husband left her for his skydiving instructor, and her top knot proves she hasn’t showered in days.

Then a live video of the “always calm” April goes viral…and she’s most definitely not. Enter Jack Gibson, April’s contact at the media conglomerate that has purchased April’s brand. The too-sexy-for-his-own-good Jack will help clean up April’s viral mess, and even work with her to expand her influence, but toddler tea parties and a dog with a penchant for peeing on his shoes were definitely not part of the deal.

Now April’s calm has jumped ship quicker than her kids running from their vegetables. Not to mention, the sparks flying between her and Jack have her completely out of her depth. Forget finding her calm—April’s going to need a boatload of margaritas just to find her way back to herself again.

Review

She laughed because she wasn’t a phoenix. No one burned her to ashes, even though Kent had truly tried. No, she wasn’t a phoenix. She was April. And April may fall, but she always gets right back up again.

April May Fall is book three of the Mommy Wars series. I didn’t know that going in, so this is the first book I’ve ever read from Christina Hovland. So it can be read as a standalone.
April is in the process of launching her brand, “The Calm Mom.” Unfortunately, in one of her live streams, she goes viral for all of the wrong reasons. Jack comes to save the day; he’s Mr. Fix It. He is willing to do whatever possible to help April become a successful influencer.
Jack and April’s family was just so cute. I loved Jack right off the bat. His earlier thoughts were funny because you knew it would happen since it is a romance novel. I think you will know what I mean when you read it in chapter three. I love quotes, so the incorporation of quotes at the beginning of each character was something I enjoyed very much. In the end, April was able to find herself and be who Jack knew she always was.
After finishing April May Fall, it made me fall into a hole of reading the single parent trope. The majority of the books after were about single parents. When I get the chance, I will be reading the other books in the Mommy Wars series.

Gage
Show up, get decent grades, then graduate so I could leave this town and it’s painful memories in the past. But, I guess my life wasn’t meant to be easy.
She’s supposed to be nothing more than a blip on my radar. Forgettable. Insignificant.
Only she’s not.
She gets under my skin in the worst way possible.
But I shouldn’t want to keep her.
I’m the reason her father is in prison.
I’m the reason she has nothing and no one left in this world.
She should hate me.
Only, the more time I spent with her, the more I realized I don’t want her to hate me.
Kiera
Gage Walker is my obsession.
My muse. My savior.
All my problems disappear whenever I’m in his arms.
I should let him go.
He’s not good for me.
He’s not good for anyone. Not with all the baggage he carries, not with his scowling face and not with his grumpy disposition.
Yet, when I look into those green eyes of his, none of those things mattered. Not even the fact that he is the man responsible for everything that I’ve lost.
I can’t let him go. I don’t know how, so I won’t.
Gage Walker will be mine.

REVIEW

The Knight and the Princess is the third in a series but can be read as a standalone. This is the first of V.T Do’s works I have read. It was a slow start for me; I wasn’t hooked until later on. Some parts were repetitive. At first, I wasn’t invested in Kiera and Gage’s story as much as the side characters. For some reason, I didn’t enjoy Kiera’s POV that much. I loved Gage. The obsession aspect put me off for a bit. The Knight and the Princess took me longer than I would usually read a book. At some point, it picked up and captured my attention, which I wanted to finish, especially with all of the plot twists that kept being thrown at you. However, I enjoyed my overall experience. After finishing The Knight and the Princess, I want to read the other two books in the series. The glimpse of the characters in this book made me want to see more of them.

Love, Comment, Subscribe Blog Tour

October 8, 2021

Today, Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley is out! Check out the gorgeous new romcom and grab your copy today!

Title: Love, Comment, Subscribe

Author: Cathay Yardley

Genre: Romantic Comedy

About Love, Comment, Subscribe:

Back in high school, Lily Wang wanted to be popular, but she considered herself lucky to be part of a tight group of oddballs and honors students called the Nerd Herd. Now, at twenty-eight, she feels like she’s finally on the cusp of succeeding as a beauty influencer—if she can hit five million subscribers, brands will take notice and she could get her own makeup line.

Fellow Nerd Herd alum Tobin Bui has had a lot of success as a YouTube gamer. But the road to online stardom has been rocky. First, he disappointed his parents by dropping out of college, and now, after years of pranks, skits, and playthroughs, he’s struggling to come up with new content to satisfy his ever-growing fan base. His agents say he needs cross-audience appeal, a new twist.

When Nerd Herd frenemy Lily approaches Tobin about teaming up to do a video to bolster her brand and reinvigorate his, he agrees. But when their first collab video goes viral, their relationship heats up too. With the whole internet watching, will these two former misfits finally realize they’re perfect together?

Review:

When I first found out about Love, Comment, Subscribe, I knew I wanted to read it based on the summary. Not only that, but the main characters are Asian. Even though there are more options for diverse characters now, that wasn’t the case for me growing up. So it’s refreshing to see someone like me in any form of media.
Their frenemies-to-lovers relationship was something I enjoyed; the banter was fun and cute. I loved the characters. I could relate to Tobin. Yet was also able to understand why Lily was the way she was.
Love, Comment, Subscribe touched upon mental health, which is a topic that has a stigma surrounding it, especially in most Asian cultures. People should normalize talking about their mental health; it is an integral part of who they are. Cathy Yardley did a good job talking about it. Your past impacts your present and future. The character’s background added to the story and is not just an information dump; it added depth to the characters and made them more relatable. I felt seen and understood as I was reading. I had never read anything from Cathy Yardley before, but I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

About Cathy Yardley:

Cathy Yardley is an award-winning author of romance, chick lit, and urban fantasy, who has sold over 1.2 million copies of books for publishers like St. Martin’s, Avon, and Harlequin. She writes fun, geeky, and diverse characters who believe that underdogs can make good and sometimes being a little wrong is just right. She likes writing about quirky, crazy adventures, because she’s had plenty of her own: she had her own army in the Society of Creative Anachronism; she’s spent a New Year’s on a 3-day solitary vision quest in the Mojave Desert; she had VIP access to the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Now, she spends her time writing in the wilds of East Seattle, trying to prevent her son from learning the truth of any of said adventures, and riding herd on her two dogs (and one husband.)

“A Bánh Mì for Two” is a feel-good story about foo “A Bánh Mì for Two” is a feel-good story about food, family, and self-discovery.

Dual POVs: Lan, who lives in Sai Gon, wants to be the perfect daughter and fulfill “expectations,” all the while dealing with the grief of losing her father. Vivi is a Vietnamese-American who comes to Vietnam for the first time, wanting to learn more about her family and herself. Their love of food connects them.

I wasn’t expecting to get emotional as I did.

“A Bánh Mì for Two” was what I needed growing up. Stories with characters who look like me are coming to traditional publishing in YA. And people even know about it!

If only the blog was real! I would use it the next time I go to Vietnam. It needs to be a thing.

It was relatable. However, I wished for more at moments.
A few times, I had to stop to look up words. Since I can understand Vietnamese more than I can read it, I had to listen to the words to understand what they were. It would have been an even better experience if I had listened to the audiobook.

“A Bánh Mì for Two” was one of my anticipated books of the year, and I am honored to be gifted a copy.
