Obsidian Throne

January 15, 2022

No matter how I had tried to avoid it, there was no escaping what we had: The kind of love you went to war for.

And that’s exactly what I intended to do.

Obsidian Throne is the fourth and final book in the Lochlann Feuds Series. Don’t miss this stunning conclusion to Rowan’s story!

Review

Let’s start with the cover. I know, don’t judge a book by its cover. But come on, look at them. They’re GORGEOUS! The colors of the dresses aren’t just because it’s pretty; there’s a meaning to them.

In Crimson Kingdom, I was talking about how I wanted Evander’s point of view, not knowing that Obsidian Throne would have it. It seems weird that it goes from one POV in the first three books to two POVs for the last one. But I’m not upset about it. I would’ve loved more of Evander’s POV, but I’m glad that there would be a companion book with his point of view. I understand that The Lochlann Feuds series is Rowan’s story.

I love a full-circle moment. The dedication from Obsidian Throne is

To everyone who took a chance on a story that started with vodka. Psst… It ends that way too.

That in itself encompasses the series as a whole.

I love quotes, and I highlighted so many while I was reading. From the dedication to the last lines of Obsidian Throne, I was hooked!

Obsidian Throne is a roller coaster of emotions. I was laughing, smiling, and there were even moments when I started tearing up.

Like most relationships, Rowan and Evander’s had their ups and downs. From the very beginning, Evander called Rowan Lemmikki. Telling her that it means pet, which it does, but what he meant was darling. And everyone knew that, everyone but Rowan.
Their chemistry was instant.

“To think that we were connected from the first time we danced.”

They were inevitable. Rowan and Evander understand one another.

We were two broken souls with violent tendencies when it came to protecting the people we loved.

On the outside, they’re wearing a mask, hiding everything inside. But beneath it all, they’re human and vulnerable.

At some point, I want to read The Lochlann Treaty series, reread The Lochlann Feuds series, and have a spoiler version along with all of my favorite quotes. But that is a later project. I can’t wait for Evander’s story, whenever that comes out.

Crimson Kingdom

December 21, 2021

Summary

Rowan thought she had escaped her life as a prisoner.

But even in Lochlann, she is chained by the memories of everything she left behind in Socair.

Of everyone she left behind.

With her people clamoring for war, the responsibility falls on Rowan to enter into a marriage alliance to keep her kingdom safe. That should be easy, considering she’s already received proposals from half the clans in Socair.

But even with plenty of options, she’s left with no good choices.

Will she play it safe? Or will she risk everything for the kind of love she never wanted to begin with?

The kind of love that could break her.

Review

Crimson Kingdom is the third book in The Lochlann Feuds series. Rowan finally returns home to Lochlann after being imprisoned in Socair. Her perspective of the world is now different from before because of her experiences away that forced her to grow up. She left a piece of herself behind, along with some memories.

Everyone dreams of being a princess. They want a fairytale and happily ever after. Until they realize that royals are humans, too, nothing is perfect. So there are going to be negatives with positives.

Royals have responsibilities. The kingdom first before themselves. Rowan must marry to prevent a war among the kingdoms. As long as it benefits the kingdom in the long run, love doesn’t matter. Rowan must choose between playing it safe or risking everything for a love that can break her.

When I know there is a love triangle, I tend to stay away. The back and forth frustrates me. That is not the case with Crimson Kingdom. Rowan knew who she wanted. It was more to the matter of listening to her heart or her head. She is in a position where her decision doesn’t just impact herself but also her kingdom.

Seeing Rowan’s family was interesting. All of the characters, main or side, have backstories. They have depth; there is more to them than meets the eye. They aren’t flat. I understand that The Lochlann Feuds series is told from Rowan’s perceptive, but I wish there were multiple points of view. To see what the other characters were thinking and feeling. I guess that is why I tend to go for multiple points of views stories.

Crimson Kingdom was so captivating that I finished reading in one day. Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison know how to hook you in from beginning to end. It makes you want to read the series from back to back in one go. Although I couldn’t read them that way, I’m glad the wait for Obsidian Throne isn’t that long. The Lochlann Feuds series concludes with Obsidian Throne on December 26, 2021.

“A Bánh Mì for Two” is a feel-good story abo “A Bánh Mì for Two” is a feel-good story about food, family, and self-discovery.

Dual POVs: Lan, who lives in Sai Gon, wants to be the perfect daughter and fulfill “expectations,” all the while dealing with the grief of losing her father. Vivi is a Vietnamese-American who comes to Vietnam for the first time, wanting to learn more about her family and herself. Their love of food connects them.

I wasn’t expecting to get emotional as I did.

“A Bánh Mì for Two” was what I needed growing up. Stories with characters who look like me are coming to traditional publishing in YA. And people even know about it!

If only the blog was real! I would use it the next time I go to Vietnam. It needs to be a thing.

It was relatable. However, I wished for more at moments.
A few times, I had to stop to look up words. Since I can understand Vietnamese more than I can read it, I had to listen to the words to understand what they were. It would have been an even better experience if I had listened to the audiobook.

“A Bánh Mì for Two” was one of my anticipated books of the year, and I am honored to be gifted a copy.
