Summary
Marissa
Worse than the lies they had told were the ones they continued to perpetuate – the ones that at times made me doubt even myself. But I knew what had happened, knew what they had done to her, and I was the only one left to exact her vengeance for everything they had done.
Getting in had been far easier than I had expected, or perhaps I had simply become so good at playing their game.
Staying here on the other hand was where the difficulty lay, because the boy with the auburn hair and nice smile seemed to see through all the brittle lies that I told.
Mack
She’s different. Different to any other Society girl that I had met, but it was more than that. Because it was almost as if she didn’t want to be here, even after fighting for a place among the elite.
A paradox – an enigma – a beauty that seemed to rival those that had been bred for this life. Call her what you liked, but Marissa was more than just a Society recruit, and I was determined to find out exactly who she was and why she was here – even if my blood sang each time she pressed her lips against mine.
Note:
Marissa in the Organization is not like the other Society girls. She didn’t grow up there and so she is bad ass. She knows how to gut a man in under a minute and her sole focus is revenge.

Review
It didn’t matter what I felt, it only mattered what others saw.
Every time Erin Mc Luckie has a new release, I try to read it immediately. I want to continue whichever series the book is for because she usually ends with a cliffhanger and sets up for the next book, leaving you wanting more. So did I stop reading my current read and read this immediately as it was available instead? Of course!
I keep repeating myself, but it still holds true; with every book I read from Erin, it only gets better and better.
Marissa and Mack were my favorites. They’re the outcasts/outsiders of the Society. The perfect people that the Society makes you see them as and mold them to be, yet they feel realistic and human. Yes, they are disguised/blending in, but it’s not who they are underneath everything.
Having snippets from the other characters from the other books made me see them in a different light. I wouldn’t like the others if I had just read from Mack and Marissa’s point of view. That’s why they say don’t judge a book by its cover. Every perspective adds something different and ties everything together nicely, even if it may not seem like it does at first.
The plot twist! The cliffhanger! I can’t believe that the series is almost over. I’ll be waiting impatiently to discover what happens next in The Institution in 2023.
