Summary
Hannah Williams finds herself in a less-than-jolly predicament. Dumped by her boyfriend and alone for the holidays, she’s talked into going to her company’s Christmas party by her best friend. The problem? Her ex-boyfriend works for the same company and will be showing up with his new fiancée. Not wanting to face her ex alone, Hannah turns to the Rent-A-Date website hoping to find someone she could suffer through the party with. Little did she know, suffering would be the last thing on her mind once she met her date.
Josh Roberts thought he had his whole life figured out. He’d had a hit song on the radio, toured with the hottest Country music artists, and then it all stopped. Trying to make rent while still pursuing music, Josh finds himself working with Rent-A-Date. Easy hours, (mostly) no drama, and decent money, he just had to smile through a few nights a week of drunken cougars with frisky hands and nearly getting punched by angry ex-husbands. But when he meets Hannah for the first time, he realizes maybe ending up at Rent-A-Date was the best thing that could’ve happened to him.
When running into her ex turns out to be a less than pleasant experience, Hannah finds out what it’s like to fight with someone in her corner. Now, with some Christmas magic in the air, Josh and Hannah have a chance to experience all the best that Christmas has to offer when she wins a free hotel room for the night. But when their own personal Grinch realizes Hannah is ready to move on, he becomes determined to steal their Christmas. Josh and Hannah are pressed to find if they believe enough to keep the magic alive.

Review
“You’ll be the Westley to my Buttercup?” “As you wish.”
You’ve been with someone for a long time. The person ended up not being who you thought they were. So you go your separate ways. And yet, they keep coming back. Even though it appears they have moved on, hindering you from moving on yourself.
Hannah has a Christmas party, where her ex is bringing his new fiancée. She needs a date, and her friend tells her about Rent-A-Date.
Josh’s life didn’t turn out how he thought it would. So, down on his luck, he took some jobs at Rent-A-Date to help him get by. His latest was with Hannah. There was a connection, but Josh thought he wasn’t good enough for her, that she deserved better, but he wanted to do everything he could to give her what she deserved.
The nicknames came to a full circle moment. Not just Hannah’s but everyone else’s as well. Once you get more background, they make more sense and are not random.
The drama! Just kidding, it wasn’t that dramatic, but it was a fun, quick read that comforted me.
The Princess Bride references made me want to watch the movie, so I will have to do that soon.
I wanted to read a longer story about Josh and Hannah. What happens next? I craved more because I felt it could continue. But it wrapped together nicely and could end there without feeling unfinished.
After reading As You Wish, I wanted to read the rest of the Rent A Date anthology to learn more about the company because it sounds like an interesting concept.
