Hottie on Her Shelf by Christi Barth is now live!
He’ll get between her… pages.
Hallie Scott expected the hangover from her thirtieth birthday. She did not expect to find her calm, orderly life as Swan Cove’s head librarian to completely change overnight when her best friend added Hallie to the mayoral ballot because of one little remark. One. Now she’s going head-to-head with the small coastal town’s prominent “prince,” Fitz Montgomery…whose charm is about to get seriously checked.
All Fitz wants is to prove himself, beyond being the latest in the unbroken line of Montgomery mayors. Nobody, least of all Fitz, expected the town’s cute-as-hell librarian to step up and run against him. Hallie’s definitely in over her head, which is a problem, since Fitz wants a fair fight. But is he helping Hallie level the playing field…or arming his opponent?
Hallie and Fitz are on completely different sides. Their backgrounds, their lives, their ongoing ebook vs paperback argument. But they’re both about to learn that the art of war is nowhere near as complicated as falling for the enemy…
Review
The coincidence was almost laughable. They had so much more in common than she’d ever imagined.
Small towns have certain beliefs and tend to be set in their ways. It’s tough for change to come about. Not that it doesn’t happen, but it does so very slowly. For the first time in a while, someone other than a Montgomery is on the ballot to run for mayor. Fitz has to work harder to win votes. Since Hallie isn’t originally from Swan Cove, the people look down upon her for being from the wrong side of town. Everyone automatically assumed that Fitz would still be mayor by the end because Swan Cove’s mayor has always been a Montgomery for as long as people have known.
Fitz and Hallie are more alike than they realized. While there are some topics they disagree on, there are many that they agree on. Their experience may be different, but the overall takeaway was the same.
I felt bad for Fitz. He put his life on hold to continue the family legacy. Even when he wanted to quit, he didn’t. His parents may be a little too much, but they wanted what was best for the family. They just went about it the wrong way. At least at the end of the day, Fitz knew they loved him, even when they didn’t show it.
I was not too fond of Hallie at first. She may not have been a “snob,” but she was a “reverse snob.” Judging people because they were rich. But, she did show growth because she eventually realized it and tried her best to change.
I enjoyed reading Hottie on Her Shelf, but it took longer than I thought it would take me to finish. But, it was light and fun. A nice change from all of the heavy topics I’ve been reading. I would read something from Christi Barth again.
