Summary
The Society controls them – governs them – defines them, but can two people from very different worlds beat the odds that have been thrust against them? Can they overcome their own archaic beliefs? Or will their own arrogance and pride doom them both?
Natalia
One last summer. That was what I promised myself – what I told myself I could get away with. Because I didn’t want to give him up, but then we were never given a choice. So I was going to indulge on the mediterranean seas, quelling my thirst for a life that could never be mine – even if I was working in the background to dismantle the system.
But he isn’t who he says he is, and I can’t find it in myself to be mad, because I’ve been lying the whole time about who I am and where I come from.
Dean
She was supposed to be my salvation – my little piece of purity in this dark world. I supposed it serves me right that the one good thing I found in life was tainted, but if she thought she was tainted by them, it will be nothing compared to what she will be like once I’m done with her.
Because she was supposed to be pure, but she f*cking lied. And that is one transgression, I won’t accept.
Review
It was almost laughable how little either of us had control over our own lives.
The Agency gives us more insight, and we learn more about the history and information about the Society. The Society controls everything, even if people do not realize it. They hold power over people who are a part of them and those they view who are “beneath” them. No one person knows everything; it is divided into groups so that they can’t be compromised if anything happens.
Natalia and Dean’s relationship is based on lies. Neither of them knew who each other was. Natalia is part of the Society. She hopes to have one last summer with her boyfriend, away from the Society, before going back and continuing her mission. Dean wants Natalia. Beneath all the lies, they understand each other on a deeper level. Their relationship, although rocky, became something.
Each of the books so far in the series ended in cliffhangers. And usually, I don’t like not having HEAs (happily ever after). But there are a few exceptions, and Erin Mc Luckie Moya is one of them. At least by the end of the series, everyone will get their HEAs. I will keep reading until the end, when everything is wrapped up. Erin’s writing will captivate you and make you want to read more.
I still stand by The Firm being my favorite so far in the Illuminati Files series. Followed by The Agency and then finally The Society.
I can’t wait to see what happens next in The Organization on September 15, 2022.
