Summary
What happens when you’re born into a secret society? When your great-grandfather was a founding member? Do you have a choice whether you stay or not?
And the benefits that befall you with such a position? The easy college access and high powered positions – the multinational firms.
But what is the cost?
Aria has lived the whirlwind life of a high society princess, but the pied piper has called and it’s time to pay the cost to The Society for such a lifestyle. Three months. That is what is owed to them. Three months of servitude and then she is free. Right? Because not too much can happen in those three months. If she keeps her head down and doesn’t get caught up with any of the Society men, she will be just fine. At least that’s what she thought until he arrived and changed everything.
Review
I knew that I didn’t look any different, but somehow everything had changed.
I just wanted to say that I have read several of Erin Mc Luckie Moya’s works right off the bat. Although I have to admit, even though I liked and enjoyed The Society, it’s not my favorite from her. It might be because this is the foundation where she builds the world for the series. I went into reading knowing about the cliffhanger. But, even though I can somewhat relate to the main characters, I couldn’t connect with them.
When I’m reading Erin’s book, I usually begin highlighting right from the dedication. It is always something I either resonate with or just like in general.
The Society is an elite group that runs the world, and the people have certain privileges that not everyone has. It is a secret society that no one knows anything about unless they are a part of it. Aria and Ajax are born into the Society. To continue living their lifestyle, they must pay by giving the Society at least three months. It may seem like it’s a perfect life, but the Society is always controlling their life in the background. Aria is naive and goes into her servitude blind. Ajax has been part of the Society for years and groomed young. Aria is the type of person who is beautiful but doesn’t realize it. Everyone keeps saying she’s model-like, which is fine, but I can’t personally connect with characters who are perfect-like. I know she is thrust into the world without any preparation, but I can’t get over every time her looks are mentioned. She should be beyond her looks.
I’m glad that I have planned to read the Illuminati Files series somewhat back-to-back. The third book in the series, The Agency, is out on May 13, 2022.
